Structural map
The structural map (<structMap>) is the only mandatory section of a METS file. Using a hierarchical structure, it indicates how the various components of a digital object (or group of digital objects) relate to each other, and facilitates navigation by the end user. It also includes links to these component objects (or files), and metadata about them. More than one structural map can be included in the same METS document, which allows the archivist to create multiple arrangements of digital files, providing the user with different means of accessing the material.
