Representation

In the PREMIS data model, a Representation is the set of Files needed for a complete and reasonable rendition of an Intellectual Entity. A simple example might be the text of a speech or report which is saved as both a Microsoft Word document and a PDF file; each of these is a different Representation of the Intellectual Entity, in which the textual content is identical but the underlying encoding differs considerably. The Representation for a complex Intellectual Entity might consist of multiple Files along with the structural metadata required to reassemble them into an Intellectual Entity, e.g. a website which is comprised of numerous HTML files, and a number of GIF image files.
