Preservation metadata
The purpose of preservation metadata is to ensure that digital objects which have been selected for long-term preservation remain authentic, renderable, accessible and understandable over time. Preservation metadata will normally include information on the computing environments relevant to a digital object, any preservation actions undertaken on a digital object and relationships between digital objects. PREMIS provides a core set of preservation metadata elements for use by digital archive repositories. Other types of metadata relevant to a digital object (e.g. descriptive and administrative metadata) are recorded using different metadata standards.
