Normalisation

Normalisation is a method of migration that involves using only stable normalised formats, for example, this could involve a one-off conversion to XML and an institutional commitment to support the XML format indefinitely. An institution may adopt normalisation as the cost of digital preservation will be reduced if all objects, where possible, are stored in a set of preferred formats. The National Library of Australia is an advocate of this method.
