Glossary - M
MIME Type
MIME stands for Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions. It was originally devised for Internet email to enable a mail message to carry information other than a simple plain text message based on 7-bit ASCII characters (e.g. other character encodings, images and sounds). It has subsequently become the standard means of identifying content types on the Internet. MIME types are registered with the Internet Assigned Number Authority (IANA).
