Metadata structure standard
A metadata structure standard ensures a level of consistency in the structure of all metadata files which conform to that standard, e.g. by stipulating the constituent data elements to be included, and their ordering. It does not govern the content of the metadata, and should ideally be used in conjunction with a relevant metadata content standard to maximise interoperability. EAD is an example of a metadata structure standard.
