MARC - Machine-Readable Cataloguing

Like EAD for archives, MARC is a system which enables computers to exchange and use the information contained in bibliographic records (i.e. catalogue records for books). It is a well-established and widely adopted standard, and it became MARC 21 in the late 1990s. The MARCXML Schema has been developed for working with MARC in an XML environment, and the MODS Schema is also based on fields used in MARC 21.
