Managed environment
A digital archive repository is an example of a managed environment. While digital records are being stored in situ by their creator and are not being actively managed or migrated. to new formats, they are always at risk of loss through obsolescence. The earlier they are brought into the managed environment of a digital archive, the greater their chance of permanent survival. The functions carried out by a digital archive are based on standards and clearly documented policies and procedures; in this environment, the preservation and access requirements of each digital object are actively managed over time, so that the continued viability and long-term preservation of the digital object is ensured.
