IPRs - Intellectual Property Rights
Digital objects, like paper records, are bound by intellectual property rights. It is vital that when such objects are described their IPRs are also identified. If digital objects are accessioned sooner after creation they will be subject to IPRs for longer and information regarding the current rights holder(s) will need to be held (and kept up-to-date) for longer. This is especially important for digital objects because many preservation strategies require the duplication or migration of the original item.
