Glossary - I
Interoperability
The ability of more than one information system to work and exchange information with other systems, and to use the information that has been exchanged. Interoperability is maximised by the use of standards, including: standards for the structure and content of all types of metadata; formally defined languages for data exchange based on XML; and open formats and software.
