GDFR - Global Digital Format Registry
The need to understand what is required to render various file formats (what OAIS calls Representation Information) is a key concept for digital repositories. It makes sense for this difficult activity to be co-ordinated centrally, rather than duplicated by several digital curators. The GDFR concept aims to realise this co-ordination by creating a single registry of file formats which contains the detailed Representation Information required by digital curators.
