FOI - Freedom of Information Act
Under UK law, the Freedom of Information Act 2000 gives individuals the right to access information held by public sector bodies covered by the Act (which includes university libraries). However, there are some exemptions from the Act which apply to those responsible for archives, e.g. in relation to personal data, and information which has been provided in confidence.
