File

In the PREMIS data model, a File is defined as a named and ordered sequence of bytes that is known by an operating system. It can be made up of zero or more bytes and has one file format, access permissions, and file system statistics such as size and last modification date. The format of the file is laid out in the format specification. Examples might be a Portable Document Format 1.4 file, a WordPerfect for Windows 5.1 file, or a Microsoft Word 9 file. One or more Files make up an Intellectual Entity.
