Emulation
Emulation is one of the two principal strategies for the long-term preservation of digital objects, offering an alternative to the migration approach. It involves preserving the bitstream of the digital object, and creating an access version of the object for users by making use of current technology to emulate some or all of the technological environment in which the original object was created and used. Emulation may be a better approach than migration in those cases where it is considered important that the functionality and 'look and feel' of an object should be preserved.
