DPA - Data Protection Act
Under UK law, the Data Protection Act 1998 sets out rights and restrictions in relation to the processing of personal data about living individuals. Most personal digital archives held in archive repositories are likely to contain information (often of a sensitive nature) about living people and will therefore be subject to the DPA; this may mean that lengthy closure periods have to be imposed on certain records.
