DOI - Digital Object Identifier System
DOI is an implementation of the Uniform Resource Name and Universal Resource Identifier concepts using CNRI's Handle system. A DOI is a unique string which identifies an object directly, not just the place where the object is located. The location of an object is an attribute which is subject to change, this is why it is important to distinguish between location and identification. The DOI is composed of a Prefix assigned by a Registration Agency plus a Suffix assigned by publisher. DOI is maintained by the International DOI Foundation (IDF).
