Digital archive service

The digital equivalent of a traditional archive service, although some procedures and access conditions may differ. A digital archive should aspire to comply with the OAIS Reference Model, which defines an OAIS as 'an archive, consisting of an organization of people and systems, that has accepted the responsibility to preserve information and make it available for a Designated Community'. Some archive repositories may choose to contract out elements of their digital archives service (e.g. archival storage or distributed access) to specialist third-party organisations.
