Creative Commons
Creative Commons is a non-profit organisation devoted to expanding the range of creative work available for others to build upon and share. It has issued several licences which enable copyright holders to grant some of their rights to the public while retaining others; creators can use any of these free licences when releasing their works on the Web. Creative Commons also provides metadata that describes the licence and the work, making it easier to process and locate licensed works. The work of the digital curator is made much easier when materials in the archives they care for are covered by Creative Commons licences.
