To catalogue (v)
Cataloguing is one of the core activities of an archivist, and takes place after the final arrangement of an archive has been determined. Each archive repository usually has its own in-house guidelines for producing archival catalogues, although these should be based on the international standard for archival description, ISAD(G)2 to facilitate the exchange of information. Various types of proprietary software have been produced for the purpose of archive cataloguing, but increasingly archivists are using Encoded Archival Description which is hardware and software independent.
