Authority Control

Authority control refers to the consistent structuring of metadata content rather than metadata structures. It is commonly used by archive and library cataloguers to regulate forms of names, subjects and places to ensure that all records pertaining to a common name, place or subject can be easily located. For a number of years the archive profession has adopted standards for creating authority records including the NCA Rules, ISAAR (CPF) and LCSH.
