ASCII - American Standard Code for Information Interchange
ASCII is a standard which defines how computers read and write characters. It is the most common type of character coding for text files and the Internet, and is used as a standard code for the transmission of data. It is based on the English alphabet, and the full ASCII set represents 128 characters, including letters, numbers, punctuation marks and some non-printing characters that determine how text is processed. 95 of the characters are printable, and each character is represented by a number.
