Glossary - A
Arrangement
Arrangement is the archival activity which precedes cataloguing, and involves arranging the contents of an archive in an ordered, meaningful way. It is guided by the principles of provenance and original order, and the stipulations of ISAD(G)2. Within an archive, documents are grouped together into distinct but interrelated units, within a hierarchical structure which reflects the administrative structure, division of functions or activities, and record-keeping practices of the archive creator - whether an organisation or an individual.
