Glossary - A
Administration
In the OAIS (see Glossary entry for OAIS) functional model, Administration is the entity that provides the services and functions needed to ensure the successful overall operation of an archive system; it controls the operation of the other OAIS functional entitites on a day-to-day basis. This encompasses a wide range of activities in a digital archive, such as selecting archives to acquire (in accordance with an institutional collecting policy), negotiating donation or deposit agreements, determining frequency of accesions, overseeing the updating or migration of the archive's contents, establishing and maintaining standards and policies, dealing with user requests and providing user support.
